The Out of Town Museum (OOT), a National Lottery Heritage funded project, celebrates the rural heritage of Coquetdale and has created a permanent record of a former way of life. Since 2019 we have recorded the memories and stories, told in the local Northumbrian voice, of people living and working in the area through oral history interviews and collected photographs, documents and artefacts for future generations to cherish and enjoy.

We have worked in partnership with schools, artists, musicians and filmmakers from the area to create photographic displays, film and original music to keep the heritage and history alive. Our guided walks in partnership with the Northumberland National Park Rangers have provided the opportunity to ‘Walk in their Shoes’, combining the stunning landscape with the voices and memories of those who lived and worked in Coquetdale.
